Read & Reading

I still haven’t been able to get much reading in. It requires two hands to hold a Kindle or book, and my hands are pretty full these days! I have been able to get about halfway through Michael Hyatt’s Living Forward by listening to the audio book.  I love its message that you don’t get to where you want to go in life my drifting.  You have to be intentional.

TV

  • Twinsters.  I watched documentary this on Netflix a few weeks ago and was captivated by it. It’s the true story of identical twin sisters, separated at birth and adopted by different families. They grew up without knowing the other existed and discovered each other randomly via YouTube. It’s an unbelievable and extremely endearing story.
  • Grand Hotel. Think Downtown Abbey meets murder mystery. En español. I’m slowly working my way through the series and quite proud of myself for not turning on the English subtitles. (I do turn on the Spanish subtitles, though!)
  • Long Lost Family.  This is a show for research geeks like me. It helps adoptees find their biological families. Love it!

Things I Love

  • My S’well water bottle.   Breastfeeding has made me extremely thirsty, all the time. So I don’t go anywhere without my S’well bottle. It keeps cold liquid cold for 12 hours- even when you leave it in the hot car!
  • Burt’s Bees Squeezeable Lip Balm.  I’ve been using Burt’s Bees Lip Balm almost exclusively for fifteen years.  I LOOOOVE the new squeezeable format because now I can keep a tube in the car without it worrying about melting and causing a mess!

Read & Reading

TV

I’m averaging about 4 hours a day of nursing, so that means I’m still watching a lot of TV. (Sometimes I read, but my neck gets sore after looking down at a book or phone for so long). My current favorites are…

  • The Little Couple.  This show just always brings a smile to my face.  It can be kind of corny, but I love seeing the little kids grow (especially Will).  When we were in the middle of infertility treatments, it gave me hope to see such a positive adoption story, too.
  • Finding Your Roots.  What librarian wouldn’t love a show based on genealogy research?  Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is a fantastic, intelligent host.  The recent episode with LL Cool J and Sean Combs was fascinating!

Things I Love

  • Naps.  I’m not getting very many of these, but the ones I do get are just heavenly!
        • Ambiance Lite app.  This free iOS app lets me download different white noise tracks.  I use them to help CJ fall asleep.

Read & Reading

My reading time has taken a huge hit due to motherhood, but that’s okay! I’ve been slowly making my way through Michael Yankoski’s Sacred Year: Mapping the Soulscape of Spiritual Practice — How Contemplating Apples, Living in a Cave, and Befriending a Dying Woman Revived My Life. This book isn’t what I thought it would be, and it’s not light reading, but I’m enjoying the challenge.

TV & Movies

The time I’ve spent not reading has been made up for in the time I’ve spent watching TV. (It’s hard to read while nursing, but easy to watch TV). I’ve been putting the record feature on my DVR to good use. Some of the movies and shows I’ve enjoyed are:

  • What If.  Harry Potter goes hipster. I really enjoyed this one even though it made me realize I’m no longer officially part of the “younger” generation.
  • Beth Moore’s Living Proof. I love Beth Moore’s teaching and I’m excited about the fact that she has a new weekly TV show. I normally don’t care for anything on TBN, but this is an exception.
  • Wild.  The movie was a bit graphic at certain points, but Reese Witherspoon’s portrayal of Cheryl Strayed and her journey was incredible.

Things I Love

John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Air-Dry Waves Foam

My hair is the longest it’s been in several years, but the baby doesn’t allow me much time to style it. This foam does a pretty good job at giving my curls some definition when I air dry my hair.

Hempz Original Herbal Moisturizer

Having a baby means I’m washing my hands like crazy, and the dry air means cracked, chapped hands. I love this lotion because it does a great job at moisturizing without being greasy, and the light scent is not overpowering.

Panera Quinoa Lentil Broth Bowl

MMMM, I LOVE Panera and I was fortunate enough to receive several gift cards for Christmas. I recently tried the Quinoa Lentil Broth Bowl for the first time and it’s DELICIOUS. It’s hearty, healthy, and perfect for a winter day. You can get it with either chicken or a hard-boiled egg. YUM.

Baby Nursing App

This app is AMAZING. It helps me keep track of everything baby: nursing, pumping, diaper changes, doctor’s visits, bath times, and more. Totally worth the $4.99 it costs.
